NV Energy Net Metering

What are the benefits of solar energy? That depends partly on how solar energy is implemented in a given area. For instance, customers in Nevada enjoy access to the NV Energy net metering program. This program is available to all Nevada households and businesses with renewable energy systems installed on their property. The net metering system allows a customer to send surplus energy back to the grid, providing them with credits and allowing them to gain the most benefit from the energy they produce.

Solar net metering uses a meter to measure the amount of energy that goes out of the energy system of the house as well the energy taken from the grid towards the house. In cases when a renewable energy system does not produce enough energy to support the needs of a household, the energy is supplied by the energy grid and is then billed to the customer. In times when the renewable energy system produces more energy than what the household consumes, the surplus energy is given to the energy grid and the customer receives credits for it.

NV Energy net metering is offered across Northern Nevada as well as Southern Nevada. So, what is net metering good for and why is it beneficial? The program allows customers to maximize the value of the solar energy they produce and makes more energy available to the grid.

NV Energy

NV Energy is a public utility that provides electric services across Nevada. It is one of the best electric utilities nationwide and provides reliable services to its subscribers. NV Energy gets its electricity from a variety of sources including natural gas and renewable energy. As part of their renewable energy sources, connecting households with renewable energy systems to their energy grid allows the facility to source energy from these households that they can provide to other subscribers at the commercial rate.

NV Energy net metering uses a two-way meter that can measure the energy that goes into the house as well as the energy being sent from the home energy system back to the grid. Energy is taken from the grid if the home energy system does not produce enough to support the consumption of the household. NV Energy bills the household for the amount of energy taken from the grid. The home solar energy system may send energy through the grid when the occupants consume less electricity than the system produces and the overproduced energy is sent to the grid through the meter.

NV Energy provides credits for the energy sent to their grid. Each net meter is installed by a trained contractor.

NV Energy Net Metering – Rates and Prices

NV Energy net metering credits 95 percent of the retail value of the energy provided to their grid. The billing for electricity consumption comes in two options. A customer may opt for a standard rate schedule or a Time-of-Use rate schedule. The standard rate schedule gives the customer a fixed standard rate regardless of the time that the electricity is used at home. The Time-of-Use rate schedule gives a customer a varied rate depending on the time and month of energy consumption.

During off-peak hours, the rates are lower since there is a lower demand for electricity. At times where there is high demand for electricity, the rates increase. This gives the customer the flexibility to pay a lower amount during off-peak hours and manage usage during peak hours to manage the cost of their electricity.
